Wiss & Partners in Washington, DC seeks a Clerk: International Contracts, Civil Legal Systems:
Providing assistance to attorneys with international and comparative legal research involving analysis of transnational contracts and international project finance documents; and reviewing, and drafting contracts and other legal documents pertaining to the development, equity and finance, construction, operation and maintenance of major industrial and infrastructure projects in common law and civil law countries, for review by supervising attorney.
Assisting the attorneys with preparing legal memoranda on issues of international contractual, commercial, trade and investment law in civil law countries, and particularly, countries in the South American region, for review by supervising attorney.
Under close supervision and subject to review by the supervising attorney, assisting in the establishment process of business organizations, including the drafting and reviewing of incorporation documents and organization’s bylaws, governance structuring, and the research and analysis of compliance and integrity frameworks
Assisting with the analysis, research and legal writing of memoranda on ongoing and prospective U.S. litigation and international arbitration cases pertaining to breaches of transnational contracts and bilateral treaties, particularly in countries with civil legal systems.
Providing other assistance as assigned by the supervised attorney.
Requirements: Position requires a Master of Laws Degree in Transnational, International, or Comparative Law from a U.S. accredited law school (LL.M.) plus six (6) months of post-Baccalaureate experience in the following: international and comparative legal research involving analysis of transnational contracts and international project finance documents; establishment of business organizations, including research and analysis of compliance and integrity frameworks; and legal issues involving trade, commercial, and contract law in countries with civil law systems. Professional experience may be substituted with relevant coursework completed in pursuance of a Bachelor’s or Master of Laws degree. No bar admission is required.
